Vacuoles

These organelles are filled with solid or liquid content and are membrane-bound. In animal cell, vacuoles are smaller in size and lesser in number than in plant cells. They may occupy around 50 - 90% of the total cell volume. In some plant cells, only one large vacuoles is present.  The vacuole is bounded by a membrane called tonoplast. The liquid inside the vacuole is called "Cell Sap". It contains dissolved sugar and salts. It appears as an empty space under the microscope.
